Sarung Tarung is an Indonesian action-love story produced by Starvision Plus featuring one of my favourite silat actors Yayan Ruhian (Merantau. The Raid, 22 Miles, John Wick 3 etc).
Based on the local custom in Makassar about how differences between men are settle through close combat techniques. It depicts a spoilt young Jakarta corporate heir who fell in love with a local girl and has to win a Tarung Sarung competition to win her heart.
In the process, he converted from an atheist to being a Muslim guided by a local ex-tarung champion from which he trained under.
Plenty of good messages from coming of age to standing up for oneself in this 115 mins movie. The plot is a bit thin and the ending is predictable but on a whole it still makes an entertaining film.
